Review: Lil B at the Hultsfred Festival 2011

I’m not gonna lie, Lil B was, hands down one of my top name of this festival’s line up. One of the names I was looking forward the most and when he tweeted about his shenanigans in Linköping the day before my anticipation went through the roof. We even DM:ed talking about doing a follow up interview to the one I did with him back in 2006, just after he and the Pack blow big with their ‘Vans’. The follow up interview never happened though, nor did Lil B Friday’s.
He was supposed to go on at 00.00 sharp. 23:55 pm we were 23 people in front of the Blue Stage, me and my company included. The rest of the festival was over at Crystal Castles. Lil B finally entered the stage around 00:15, accompanied by some strange euro trance:

Uhm, yeah the sound was actually this bad. So was Lil B. The following video shows the very few goodies of the show, ‘Ellen Degeneres’ and a solo version of ‘Vans’:
Besides these 6 and a half minutes the based God’s show pretty much consisted of four phrases that he rinsed completely: “SWEDEN“, “BITCH“, “SWAG” and “SUCK MY DICK“. In similar glasses that R. Kelly sports on his latest album cover Lil B went on and on and on about how he wanted to fuck some Swedish pussy, the fine ladies, how grateful he was grinding against the huge amplifiers. What he forget was to rap. He tried to do a lil’ freestyle, only caught half of it on video and the rap doesn’t come through the bad sound so I’m gonna spare you all from that experience.
BUT, if we breaks things down, Lil B is a funny dude, easily likeable. Between all super wack shit he had going on he spoke about to stay positive through everything, how he once was madly depressed, the complex bitch-thing and that’s what’s saves this pretty boy. After the show he even went so far tweeting that Bootsy Collins opened up for him, (they played like 3 hours apart from each other) and well, that’s mad fun. Some might say it’s clearly delusional, but I’d say it’s Lil B’s positivism towards life that shines through.
The show ended almost as strange as it begun, we all know that Lil B suffers from the heavy God-complex and the end of the show was almost religious. He climbed out on a small platform on the security fence right in front of the 20 people that were still left in the audience and for around 10 minutes proclaimed his love accompanied by some music worthy a chapel.
It’s sad that this show was so bad on a musical level. Lil B is a good rapper, has good vibes and a good repertoire. His latest album effort “I’m Gay” is _real_ good, sadly none of that showed. He made himself the right opposite to OFWGKTA, they owned the same stage the day before, the only thing that will echo in my mind when Lil B comes up in the near future will be the words “Sweden swag swag swag” over that horrible euro trance.
I can’t help but wonder if his show in London yesterday was as good as he claims on Twitter or if it was similar to this one, I hope not.
Best: ‘Ellen Degeneres’ & ‘Vans’
