Yo! Majesty’s Shunda K & Shon B Reunites on the Smoking Hot ‘I’m Da Best’
The last time I saw Shunda K she was standing next to me at a concert at the very last edition of the Hultsfred Festival, shaking her head in despise. Why? We watched a Swedish hip hop group called Kartellen, and yeah, before you wonder, they suck. She listened, titled her head, then gave me glance, shook her head and left. The day before she tore down Teaterladan together with Shon B as Yo! Majesty. That was 2009.
Now it’s 2010 and Shunda K has gone solo and Kartellen has finally managed to write their first song that’s not completely air, a song that today, the darkest day in the modern Swedish political history feels highly relevant, called ‘Bort med Alliansen’ (in English ‘Gone with the Alliance’):

Yeah. I have to touch on this subject for a while since the worst case scenario is now reality. The extremely xenophobic SD-party received 5,7% of all votes in yesterday’s election and not only does Sweden has to put up with four more years of a blue Alliance that’s completely running the country to the absolute rock button. Making the Sweden that used to be on the verge of becoming healthy, rather unhealthy and widening the gap between the people that have money and the people that haven’t even further apart, no, now we have to deal with the fact that SD has 20 mandates with their say. So in other words, waking up today pretty much felt like comatose and with a big big boulder on the chest. I feel ashamed that Sweden is going the same way as other European countries.
Sooo, what does Sweden’s political climate has to do with Shunda K? Well, not that much really but I’ll try to put the ends together, the first thing I heard this morning on the tube on my way to a meeting in my broken headphones with a very much distorted base (if you wanna sponsor me with some nice in-ear headphones, please give me a holler) was the second single ‘I’m Da Best’ from her upcoming solo debut “The Most Wanted”. And it gave me my hope back along with all the massive demonstrations that has been all over Stockholm today. Shunda reminded me that there’s still good things in the word, and one of them is great music and another strong women and people taking it back.
‘I’m Da Best’ features Shon B and marks the first time that the two ladies have appeared on record together since their legendary ‘Club Action’ that started the Yo! Majesty phenomenon in the first place. Shunda explains:
“I created da name and vision of Yo! Majesty in January, 1998. I made it a group when I met Shon B in 2000” and ‘I’m Da Best’ is “dedicated to all my ladies out there dat felt you had to sacrifice your bodies for a place in dis world“.
The track will be officially released on October 25th on Fanatic Records
as part of a nearly hour-long maxi-single featuring the album version along with remixes by a host of up and coming producers including The Superions, Pumpsta, The Surecut Kids, ConeyGurl and others. The Les Gourmets remix of the track features the French rap group laying it down in their native language:
and the Koax The Droid remix made the cut as the winner of a contest held as an effort to introduce yet another talented producer to the world:
The album “The Most Wanted” drops the 11th of January.
