African Grime: Listen to DJ /Rupture’s “CIAfrica”

After Matt Shadetek’s huge solo album “Flowers” comes another great release from the Dutty Artz-camp, /DJ Rupture’s “CIAfrica”.

When African music sort of has been on the hype the last three or four years this is something else. It’s not kuduro, it’s not very dancey at all, not at least what we are used to when it comes to Africa and bass. Instead it’s abrasive, synthetic, angular, lyric-driven music. CIA stands for Clan Des Indigenes Accables of United States of Africa and “CIAfrica” is heavy, grimy, African rap straight from Babi, Cote D’Ivoire featuring producer Green Dog (aka Amadou Komara), underground hero Manusa (one of the Abidjan rap scene’s founding fathers) and my fave Nasty among others.
